Because He Said So

"And God said, 'Let there be light.' AND THERE WAS." - Genesis 1:3

While reading in Genesis recently, I found myself continually drawn to verse three. The simplicity of the words stood in stark contrast to the immense complexity represented in this creative act. As I thought about it, I experienced an unexplainable sense of security. Security from complexity? Complexity from simplicity? How can this be?

Our creator, who is able to do so much more than we can even begin to dream up -- to brainstorm -- to creatively imagine, either on our own or in collaboration with the best-of-the-best, -- with just four simple words spoke the entire electromagnetic spectrum into existence

Out of darkness -- literally from nothing -- God created this amazing energy that travels and moves and intricately contributes to the balance of the universe. A life-giving source for growth and nourishment, emanating from the source of all light because He IS light. Yet the very One from whom this amazing essence flows, wraps himself in it (Psalm 104:2) and causes it to shine on us (Psalm 4:6), and in us and through us who look to Him and walk in His ways. (2 Corinthians 4:6)

In Him there is a never ending supply of LIFE. Beauty. Illumination. In Him exists all the physical properties of natural light and life, as well as every essence of spiritual light and life. He declared it, and it simply yet profoundly was ... and is. And because He is eternal, it will always be.

Musing. Pondering. Such thoughts are too grand for me, and yet...

When life all around threatens to overwhelm with discouragement, chaos, and insurmountable troubles, how reassuring to rest in the security of God's all-surpassing greatness, and His absoluteperfect, and infinitely trustworthy nature.

Because He said so. And it was.
